Dudipatsar Lake
Dudipatsar Lake (meaning: White Mountain Lake) is an alpine/glacial lake located in Kaghan Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It is considered as the most beautiful lake of Kaghan Valley due to the snow patched mountain that shadow over the lake. This lake cannot be accessed on a jeep. To reach here, one has to trek 11 kilometers on foot or to ride on horseback.
Dudipatsar is only open for few months due to its elevation (3800 meters). It is accessible from July to September only. From Naran, a small town Besal is located 48 km on Babusar road. From Besal, one hase to cross river kunhar on a local made chairlift (also called doli) and then an 11 km trek leads to Dudipatsar Lake following the Purbinar stream. Purbinar stream originates from Dudipatsar Lake and ends up in River Kunhar at Besal. Local guides and horses are readily available there.
At first, the trek is relatively plain but slowly starts to gain height. One has to cross fast flowing glacial melt Purbinar stream at a couple of places to find the way. After half way of the trek, there is a small settlement known as “Mulla Ki Basti”. An average trekker makes a night stop here because it is really tough to reach lake in a single day. No lodging facility is available there so one has to bring his own camps and food also.
After Mulla Ki Basti, the terrain is relatively plain and usually covered by pink flowers. Be careful of bogs though on which one can get trapped by making a wrong footstep. Golden Marmot are found abundantly in this region. It gets freezing in night at the lake even in summer so one has to be prepared. Ahead of Dudipatsar Lake, there is another lake with the name of Seral Lake.
